Psalms 42:1
As the deer panteth for the water so my soul longest after thee.
At the end of an exhausting winter, she will desperately paw for tender hidden berries and crush the ice to find water. Frozen under an unpenetrable blanket, the fresh spring lies deep beyond her reach. Only the warmth of the brilliant sun will bring the much needed moisture to her lips.
Sometimes we allow the solitude of our souls and our own self-sufficiency to harden us. We become old, indifferent, unbreakable, and unmoldable. In our deepest sorrows and our most consuming trouble we reach for God. (Psalms 130:1). Some have even cried out His name in their final breath.
We could come to refreshing wells of living water with every circumstance. In His word, we could find the wisdom and direction that would help us gain strength and be sustained. (Psalms 3:5-8). Why do we grasp for God when we are in trouble when we could whisper His precious name with awe and surrendered dependence everyday. Drink! (John 7:37-38) (Isaiah 55:1-4) (John 4:13).
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within
me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, whi is the health of my countenance and
my God.
