What the Bible Says About Homosexuals

INTRODUCTION: Text: Romans 1:26-27

Let me encourage you to read Romans 1:26-27. these two verses are talking about homosexuals, even though that word is not mentioned in them. The verses speak of women having sex relations with women and men with men. Webster's New World Dictionary defines homosexuality as just that. It defines a homosexual as "of or having sexual desire for those of the same sex." Furthermore, Romans 1:26-27 is speaking of sodomy, for all homosexuals are sodomites. Webster says sodomy is "abnormal sexual intercourse, as between persons of the same sex or between a person and an animal." Today they try to gain respectability by calling themselves "gays" and indicating that their activity is just an alternative sex practice. Regardless of what they call themselves, God says they are sodomites, and their filthy perversion is rotten to the core.

I've never been too concerned about what is generally acceptable to the public, nor have I considered a thing to be right or acceptable because the majority thinks so. The older I get, the more I am seeing that the majority is right on very few things, for they rarely ever agree with what God says on an issue. So, the fact that homosexuals are being more and more widely accepted as a legitimate part of society, doesn't have the least bearing on whether or not their practice is right or wrong. What God says about an issue determines whether it is right or wrong, and when the feeble courts of men have all ceased, and the divine truth of eternity has passed judgment on all things, it will be crystal clear that what God says was indeed just and right. So, we will not waste time with the feeble arguments of blinded, perverted men and women. I will declare unto you the revealed word of Almighty god on the abominable wickedness of homosexuals.

I. GOD VIEWS HOMOSEXUALS AND SODOMITES AS EXCEEDINGLY WICKED AND SINFUL.

A. Genesis is the seedbed of truth. Here you find the first indications about what God thinks about a thing, and all later revelations of God further substantiate what is initiated in Genesis. The very first suggestion of a homosexual tells what God thinks of him. The perverts were first found in Sodom.

1. These sodomites were homosexuals. You can see from Genesis 19:5 that their desire was to have sex relations with those of the same sex, which is what a homosexual is. Those men of Sodom said to Lot, "Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we know them." "Know them" comes from Hebrew words meaning to have sex relations with them.

2. In fact, the whole city of Sodom was given to homosexual activity. Genesis 19:4 says, "The men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter." This city was so universally given to homosexuality that the act of sex between those of the same sex was named after them. It is called sodomy, as we've seen from Webster.

3. Now Genesis 13:13 tells you what God thought and still thinks about this kind of activity. The divine Holy Spirit of God wrote, "But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly." Genesis 18:20 records these words, "And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorra is great, and because their sin is very grievous." When the sodomites insisted on doing their dirty business with the two heavenly beings, whom they thought to be men, 19:5, Lot said, "I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly." (Genesis 19:7)

4. You can say what you want to about it, but God says it is sin, evil, gross, hideous, sin. Genesis 18:20 speaks of the "cry of Sodom and Gomorra." Some sins, and the sins of some sinners cry aloud to heaven for vengeance. Sodomy is one of them. Homosexuality urges divine justice. Though all men are sinners, some are more perverse and blatant in their sins than others. The men of Sodomy are sinners of the first magnitude, imprudent, daring, sinners.

B. A homosexual is like a dog in the sight of God.

1. Deuteronomy 23:17-18 says, "There shall be no whore (the word can translate "sodomites") of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel. Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the Lord thy God for any vow: for even both of these are abomination unto the Lord thy God."

2. The practice of sodomy or homosexual acts was common to the wicked pagan, heathenistic neighbors of Israel, from whom they were to always remain separate. (Deuteronomy 7:2-5) The very posture of the act of sodomy is that of a dog; thus, sodomy in Israel was a reminder of the wicked Canaanites and other heathens around Israel. Its practice by an Israelite, representative of right, God-fearing people, was a testimonial that they were being infiltrated by the wickedness of their enemies. It is my personal opinion that "sodomite" and "dog" in Deuteronomy 23:17-18 equate, and that God uses dog to show His scorn of homosexuals. He is saying to Israel, don't tolerate them among you.

3. The modernists argue that it is all right, as long as it is between consenting adults. God says it is filthy, abominable sin.

C. Homosexuality is a most unnatural wickedness.

1. Romans 1:25-26 says men and women must leave their "natural use" in order to have sex relations with each other. And, such desire or "lust" for one of the same sex is called "vile affections."

2. Contrary to what the modern gays argue, they were not born that way. No sir, by the testimony of God, it is not natural. Like any other sin, the practitioner thereof has to choose it and cultivate it. After a while he may become hooked or addicted to it, but that is by his own evil choice, not because God made him that way.

II. THE TOLERATION OF SODOMY IS A BLIGHT ON ANY PERSON OR SOCIETY.

A. The deliberately blinded modernists of our day say what a person does in his bedroom is nobody's business but his own, but they are dead wrong.

1. The Bible points out a principle of truth which you can observe in operation around you every day. It says in Romans 14:7, "For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself."

2. The fact is, whatever you do, in or out of your bedroom, ultimately affects many other people. When a person's attitude comes to accept and practice homosexual activity, it is not hard at all for him to accept pornography, massage parlors and prostitution. He's much more likely to lust after my child and yours, and to make advances on him. The pornography, prostitution and other sex perversion inevitably becomes more and more open. You can see that the people of Sodom were open and determined to force everybody into their rotten practice. (Genesis 19:4-9) That's the way an infectious cancer is. It is like yeast and keeps growing and growing until it infects the whole dough. You can see from Genesis 19:4 that "all the people" of Sodom had been sucked into the quagmire of this filthy business.

3. This very day, the more homosexual activity increases among us, the more wickedness of all other sorts increase.

a. An automatic side effect of it is rejection of God. Romans 1:28 will show you that as they practiced sodomy, "They did not like to retain God in their knowledge." No wonder. A knowledge of God will put a stop to that kind of wicked conduct.

b. And, as God is pushed further and further out of things, like America is doing today, and more and more sex perversion becomes socially accepted conduct, in turn more and more wickedness of all kinds creep in. Listen to Romans 1:28-32. This very prediction is happening before our eyes today. Homosexuals attract prostitution and pornography. These lower the fiber of a society. A permissive attitude sets in. God means less. Old and right standards are attacked, and wickedness and immorality are made acceptable and fashionable. The drug and liquor crowd move in. They are followed by crime, and the whole society becomes unsafe and subject to authoritarian or mob rule.

4. People can tell me that whatever they do in their bedrooms is their business till they are blue in the face, but I am not blinded. Their practice of sodomy at home is like a new leak in the dam, and unless it is stopped, the whole dam will ultimately break and wash us all away in the tide of filth. My fight against sex perversion is more than just a religious conviction or sexual preference. It is a fight for my survival, and the survival of my children and grandchildren. And fellow Christian, if you care anything about your country and your children, you'd better get off the dead center of apathy and join me in this good fight of faith.

B. The rise or fall of any society runs a parallel to its attitude about sodomites.

1. I Kings 14:24 says in the days of King Rehoboam of Judah, "there were also sodomites in the land." That same verse will show you that Judah did all kinds of abominable things before the Lord, and all the while the nation was growing steadily weaker.

2. King Asa followed Rehoboam in Judah, "and he took away the sodomites out of the land." (I Kings 15:12) The result was a time of revival and spiritual prosperity in Judah. Although Asa failed to purge out all the sodomites, later King Jehoshaphat, Asa's son, came to power, "and the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land." (I Kings 22:46) Revival continued. Some years later Josiah began to reign in Judah, "And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the Lord, where the women wove hangings for the grove." (II Kings 23:7) Notice that sodomy had led to pagan worship and became a part of heathen religious ritual. The result of Josiah's actions was one of the greatest revivals Judah ever experienced.

3. Folks, nothing along these lines has changed. The more tolerant your attitude grows toward homosexuals, the further from God you are, and the worse shape your own spiritual life will be in. The more tolerant our society grows toward homosexuals, the worse shape it in, and the sooner we won't have a free America.

III. NO WONDER GOD'S WORD TELLS US NOT TO TOLERATE THIS WICKED SIN, NOR THOSE WHO PRACTICE IT.

A. God will destroy that people who tolerate and practice sodomy.

1. Genesis 19:5 will show you the men of Sodom were not ashamed to own up to their activity. They were open and bold with it. And isn't that just how it is in America today? The sodomites are getting bolder and bolder, even going to court to get their filthy ways accepted. Here in Genesis, there was open defiance of right, and I can't help thinking of how the modern sodomites openly defied Anita Bryant, Jerry Falwell, and many others who stood against them. This is where it always leads, and America today is becoming more and more like Sodom of old.

2. These men of Sodom paid no attention to reason on the subject.

a. Lot pleaded with them in Genesis 19:6-8, but what he said to them was like water off a duck's back. They weren't interested in the truth or what was really right.

b. They were just like the modern sodomites of our day. Their only concern is the satisfying of their own fleshly lusts. They couldn't care less what it does to you, our children, or to our America.

B. It is no wonder then that the Bible stands 100% against homosexuals and their wicked practice.

1. The righteous should not be as the wicked.

2. Let it be with America as it was with Israel. "There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor sodomite of the sons of Israel." (Deuteronomy 23:17)

3. Sex perversion is the order of our day. We are living in that day predicted in Romans 1:26-27.

4. Luke 17:28-30 indicates that as soon as it gets again just as it was in the days of Sodom, Jesus will come and destroy this evil world.
