CHAPTER THIRTY SIX
TRIBULATION
AND MILLENNIUM
MATTHEW 24:14-22
We believe the Bible reveals the future. We believe that in the future, there will be a great time of tribulation on the earth, followed by a 1000 year reign of Christ on this earth. This lesson is designed to show why we believe these truths.
I. We believe that the day will soon come when this earth will be caught up in a great time of tribulation which will far surpass any awful periods of upheaval and travail this world has ever seen:
A. Mt. 24:21-22 specifically speaks of this awful coming time.
1. Note that this is not a figurative, spiritual occurrence.
2. Mt. 24:9-22 speaks of it as an awful time unparalleled in all human history:
a. The wars, and earthquakes place these events into a category of literal occurrences.
b. Mt. 24:22 specifically refers to "flesh" which points to a literal tribulation.
B. Just consider some of the old testament prophecies of this coming tribulation:
1. Jer. 30:4-7 calls it Jacob's troubles.
2. Ezek. 20:34-38 says it's a time when Israel shall pass under the rod.
3. Ezek. 22:19-22 sees it as a time of Israel in the melting pot.
4. Mal. 3:1-3 As fullers soap on Israel.
5. Zech. 13:9 prophecies the tribulation.
6. Dan. 12:1 calls it a time of unequalled troubles.
7. Notice that it is seen mostly as being a time of troubles for the Jews:
a. It is a refining process to bring them to God.
b. Even so, the Gentiles will suffer too, beyond measure, at the side effects of God's wrath upon Israel.
C. Rev. 6:1 -- Rev. 19:21 is a detailed survey of this awful tribulation.
D. These are only a few of the scriptures which make us look for a tribulation and an antichrist to rule during it.
II. We believe the end of the tribulation will be the beginning of a 1000 year (millennium) reign of the Lord Jesus Christ on the earth:
A. We believe the event which shall end the tribulation and initiate the millennium will be Armageddon:
1. Joel 3:9-16 and Rev. 16:16 both speak of that awful battle.
2. It will be an awful battle between God and His saints (Joel 3:16), and Antichrist and his wicked gentile followers (Zech. 14:3; Rev. 19:19; Micah 4:11-12; Rev. 16:14).
3. Dan. 2:31-35 and Rev. 19:17-21 The result of the battle will be the destruction of Antichrist and gentile supremacy.
B. Armageddon will usher in the Lord; and He will set up His kingdom:
1. Zech. 14:1-4 shows the Lord comes to earth at the battle.
2. Dan. 2:35 saw the Lord's kingdom (5th) taking the place of the destroyed Roman (4th) Gentile kingdom.
3. Rev. 20:1-7 says clearly that He shall rule 1000 years.
C. Note just a few points regarding the kingdom reign:
1. Micah 4:1-7 The Lord shall rule out of Zion.
2. Many physical changes shall take place on the earth. (Zech. 14:4, 10-11).
3. The land of Palestine will produce profusely; (Joel 3:18; Isa. 35: 1; Isa. 55:13, Amos 9:13).
4. Satan will be bound and off the scene, Rev. 20:1-3.
5. Isa. 11:6-9 says the animal kingdom shall change.
6. Israel will be the chief nation on earth, (Isa. 60:11-12).
7. And, the saints will rule with the Lord those 1000 years. (I Thes. 4:13-17; Rev. 19:11-16; Rev. 2:19).
