CHAPTER TEN
BLOOD REDEMPTION-GOD'S METHOD OF REMITTING SINS
HEBREWS 9:22
We believe that it is impossible for a sinner to have his sins remitted except by the blood of Jesus Christ. This lesson is dedicated to showing you what the scriptures say on the subject.
I. It is absolutely impossible for a sinner to remit his own sins:
A. As previously shown, man is a sinner. He needs to have his sins remitted (forgiven or pardoned):
1. Jesus said in Jn. 3:3, 5 that you can not go to heaven except by a pardon.
2. Jesus also said in Lk. 13:3 "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. "
3. James 2:10 shows sinners are guilty before God. Jn. 3:18, Rom. 3:19
B. But, no man can clear his own guilt:
1. Jer. 10:23 says, "O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. "
2. Gal. 2:16 makes clear that no man can justify his own self.
3. Titus 3:5 plainly points out that our works do not remove our guilt.
4. II Tim. 1:9 Our guilt can only be taken care of by Him.
C. A man can try all the methods he desires, but through his own efforts he will never remit the first of his sins:
I . Jn. 14:6 Jesus said He was the way, and no man's sins are remitted except by Him:
2. You may try baptism, morality, good works, church affiliation, dedication, faithfulness, sincerity, etc., but they won't remit sins.
3. Jesus said, "If ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins, " Jn. 8:24, Heb. 9:22.
II. The only hope of sinners is the blood redemption of Jesus Christ:
A. The Bible clearly sets forth blood redemption as God's way of clearing the guilty:
1. Gen. 3:21 it is seen as far back as Adam and Eve.
2. Gen. 4:2-7 It is seen in Abel's sacrifice.
3. Ex. 12:1-13 It is seen in Israel's deliverance.
4. Lev. 16:5, 7-10, 15, 18, 19 It is seen in the Levitical sacrifices.
5. Our text says, "Without shedding of blood is no remission." But, Ex. 12:13 says, "When I see the blood, I will pass over you.
B. Jesus Christ died on Calvary to become our blood sacrifice for sins:
1. He was God's perfect lamb. Lk. 23:4, I Pet. 1: 19, Mk. 1:11
2. His blood was shed:
a. John 19:34 records how they pierced Him and His blood came out.
b. Heb, 9:12 says He offered His own blood to God for us.
C. Now, it is through that blood, and it alone, that we are made at "one" with God. (Sins remitted, pardoned.):
1. Rom. 5:8-11 says it's here in His blood that we receive the forgiveness of sins.
2. Eph. 1:6-7 Look at how redemption is in his blood.
3. Rom. 3:25 says righteousness is by His blood.
4. In Mt. 26:28 Jesus Himself said His blood is for remission of sins.
5. Listen to Rev. 1:5, Rev. 5:9 on blood redemption.
6. I Pet. 1:18-19 shows our redemption is not by vain things, but by blood.
D. So the contention of blood redemption is valid when viewed from scriptures:
1. It is not just His death that justifies; it is the shedding of His blood.
2. Except the blood has been applied to a life, that life is unsaved.
3. As the text shows, if there is no redemption by blood, there is no redemption at all.
