The Wonderful Concept of Grace

Titus 2:11

Introduction.

Grace! A sweet sound. The bigger the sin and the worse the mess, the better it sounds.

I. A SOOTHING, COMFORTING CONCEPT.

A. Undeserved goodness.

B. To sinful souls, grace is precious.

1. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound!

2. Who is there among us who doesn't need it? (Jn.8:7)

II. THERE IS PLENTY OF GRACE FOR EVERYONE.

A. Wherever you are, you can be forgiven.

Isa. 55:7, Micah 7:18, Isa. 43:25, Psalm 103:2-4, Acts 13:38.

B. You are not too bad.

1. Drugs? Alcohol? Wrong sex? Gay? Crime?

2. There's hope for you. (Luke 10:30,33-34. Psalm 40:2-3)

C. Beyond description.

1. Luke 7:41-47.

2. Grace purges, purifies, renews, restores, recycles.

3. Without it, not a glimmer of hope for anyone. Eph. 2:2-9.

4. With it, hope for all. Isaiah 1:18.

III. GRACE HAS A FOUNDATION & THAT FOUNDATION IS JESUS CHRIST.

A. Jesus Christ is the basis of all true grace. Ephesians 2:4-9.

1. We are all wretched sinners. Heb. 2:2.

2. Jesus was personally for our sins. Isa. 53:5-6. 1 Pet. 2:24.

B. Revel in your position, but remember that it's all because of Him.

1. Ephesians 1:5-7. Romans 5:14-15.

2. Jesus made you all you are. Psalms 84:11. Romans 3:23-26.

IV. MANY HAVE INVENTED A COUNTERFEIT GRACE.

A. Invent themselves an imaginary power.

1. A power that is only in the mind. It's imaginary.

2. This "force" or "god" becomes an to take trouble & guilt.

a. Just believe in it strong enough & you're O.K.

b. Positive thinking. The AAA. New Ageism.

B. It's a cruel deception.

1. A mirage. False peace & hope. A feeling that is not true.

2. Says things are alright when they are not.

V. THERE IS NO REAL GRACE APART FROM JESUS CHRIST.

A. All true peace and real cleansing comes from Him.

1. Sin must be addressed and only He can address it.

2. What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood.

B. There is no other basis or source of grace.

1. The solution is not a couch, hypnosis, valium or shock treatments.

2. Jesus alone can offer grace. Ephesians 1:2-10 & 2:7.
