PHASE
1 EVANGELISM
INTRODUCTION
TO PHASE 1
Teacher, your first objective is to
bring someone to Jesus Christ. Until
you do that, you have no one to disciple, unless a Christian brother or sister
hands over a new-born spiritual child to you.
You should desire your own spiritual children.
True discipleship begins with evangelism, the winning of a soul to
Christ, either by you or by someone else. Without
soul winning, there is no discipleship.
Soul winning is the first business of all saved people. It should take priority over all other activities, yet it should never be where our spiritual activity ends. Regardless of whatever else we do in the service of God, our soul winning efforts should never be forsaken nor diminished.
Jesus said, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature," (Mark 16:15). Proverbs 11:30 says, "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise." Listen to Psalm 126:5-6. "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him." Daniel said, "And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever," (Daniel 12:3).
Soul winning is not all passion and zeal. It requires competence. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God," (Romans 10:17). You must be able to set forth, clearly, the saving message of Jesus Christ. If you do not know how to win a soul to Christ, learn. One effective soul winning method is the Basic Bible Truths Home Bible Study course. The Basic Bible Truths teacher's manual is written in such a way that you can teach yourself this method. There are other methods. Learn one. Make it yours.
If you use the BASIC BIBLE TRUTHS method, present Lesson #1 of the Basic Bible Truths in Session #1. The teacher’s manual tells how to set up Home Bible studies of this type and how to teach Lesson #1. The title of Lesson #1 is “Looking At The World Through The Eyes Of God.”
Prepare well. Pray and be sure your heart is tender, humble, and compassionate. Read Lesson #1 . . . several times, if necessary. Master the title, thought, and application. Take the outline with you, if you must.
Go through the material deliberately and carefully. Realize that it is your assignment to plant and water the spiritual seed; it is God’s job to give the increase. Do your best and commit the rest to God.
Go through this material consistently and you will win a soul to Christ, maybe even you first pupil. At that point, you have someone to disciple. Teaching of all six of the Basic Bible Truths lessons lays important groundwork for your future discipleship efforts.
